1 Is there any such thing as Christians cheering each other up? Do you love me enough to want to help me? Does it mean anything to you that we are brothers in the Lord, sharing the same Spirit? Are your hearts tender and sympathetic at all? 1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and sympathetic? 1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
2 Then make me truly happy by loving each other and agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, working together with one heart and mind and purpose. 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one heart and purpose. Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;

4 Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. 4 Don’t think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
5 Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, 5 Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, 6 Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God.

6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.

6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men.a 7 He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross.b 8 And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross.

8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
