The Lexham Greek-English Interlinear New Testament

(for the Libronix software program)

(click on the link to the left for a screenshot of this resource with all options selected)

[T]he Lexham Greek-English Interlinear New Testament will present two levels of interlinear translation. The first is the lexical value, which is a gloss of the lexical or dictionary form of the word. The second is the English literal translation, a contextually sensitive gloss of the inflected form of the word. The difference in these glosses is subtle, but powerful. The first gloss answers the question, “What does this word mean?” The second gloss answers the question, “What does this word mean here?”

In addition to the interlinear translations, direct links to Louw and Nida's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains are provided for every Greek word. These links are context-sensitive and connect directly to the appropriate Louw and Nida article. Those familiar with Louw and Nida's lexicon know that one Greek word may have many different entries in the lexicon, one for each semantic sense. These Louw-Nida references jump to the appropriate article when there is more than one option — providing a contextually-appropriate lexicon definition for the word under study. These links will also allow for searching the New Testament text by Louw-Nida domain and article information.

The Greek text is fully morphologically tagged and includes dictionary forms of words (lemmas) for easy lookup in standard Greek lexical tools. As with the Lexham Hebrew-English Interlinear Bible, portions of the Lexham Greek-English Interlinear New Testament will be released periodically, as different sections of the work are completed. Registered users of the Lexham Greek-English Interlinear New Testament will be able to download updates as they are made available over the course of the project.

Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament: Based on Semantic Domains, 2nd edition, 2 volumes

(LINK TO: software edition)

Louw-Nida Greek Lexicon is a modern Greek lexicon using the concept of "semantic domains." This lexicon differs from other lexicons in that it does not arrange words alphabetically and it does not give one listing of a word with all of that word's meanings after it. Instead, it breaks words down by their various shades of meaning. It then groups all of those entries together and organizes them by topics and sub-topics. It shows the nuances in word meanings and explains difficult expressions and idiomatic usages of words, and even provides advice on how words might be translated under various conditions. Since it groups words by meanings, it shows distinctions in meaning between similar words, and also between differences in one word's meaning in different contexts, as well as showing the overlaps between word meanings.
